Church Run’s Family Co-op has been in existence for over 15 years and is one of the most active community groups in the neighborhood with over 40 members. The Co-op provides a structure where members exchange “points” rather than money for babysitting times. However, the Co-op takes on a much larger role within our community, providing many social outlets, not only for children, but for parents too!
Spring activities organized within the co-op include a family picnic complete with fun, food and games and for the parents, a progressive dinner with fun themes, great food and always a good time. During the summer months, the co-op organizes events such as ice cream socials for all the little tykes and game nights for the parents. In the fall, members will host a back to school picnic to allow the children one last hoorah before classes begin and even a back to school brunch for the moms to come and relax after all the back-to-school hustle and bustle! Last, but certainly not least, the winter season brings holiday-inspired events such as a cookie exchange and the ever-popular White Elephant Holiday Party. This a really great time as everyone brings a quirky, cheap gift or a re-gift and a twisted exchange happens.
At the core of all successful neighborhood co-ops are families who trust and respect each other enough to care for one another’s children with some regularity, and that’s what has made our community’s group so successful!
